Job Purpose and Opportunity

This is an 18-month apprenticeship. You will study part-time remotely towards an Information Communication Technician level 3 Apprenticeship. On the other four days, you will work as part of our Data Centre team within one of our Data Centres.

Working with our Data Centre Service Engineers to be responsible for Data Centre support to our clients and internal teams, assisting with server, networking, and hardware problems, and standard change requests.

Daily tasks may include cabling, installation and removal of equipment, general Data Centre upkeep, and responding to our Clients’ needs and internal requests. The DC Apprentice role is hands-on and varied, with ample problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical aspects.

We offer resources for continuous professional development, including opportunities to see and handle a wide array of vendor hardware and use networking diagnosis tools.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to client queries and requests, and other internal departments within agreed timescales and in line with our Company procedures.
  • The deployment of our Client solutions, racks and related equipment to agreed plans, provided by our project teams.
  • Provide expert cabling support, including crimping, patching, labelling, running, and terminating. 
  • Manage a queue of internal and external requests via the ServiceNow ticket system and/or via emails, which may include some direct client interaction.
  • Follow escalation processes; tickets to support management and other teams as required.
  • Liaise with both Clients and third-party suppliers when onsite, and report / escalate any client problems.
  • Site Access Management, if there is no onsite security.
  • Assist with troubleshooting faults
  • Install and decommission redundant equipment and cabling.
  • Work closely with all members of the DC and wider operational teams to ensure efficient, productive, and high-quality service to our clients within Pulsant Live Data Centre.
  • Stock control of Pulsant assets and store management.
  • Manage, categorise and prioritise all relevant tickets; these include problems, queries and requests regarding Pulsant services.

  • Minimum GCSE level, or equivalent, in English and Mathematics
  • Enthusiasm and interest in Data Centres, and passionate about IT, technology, and infrastructure.
  • A practical approach to problem solving with logical thinking
  • Solutions-driven, confident, and friendly approach in dealing with people.
  • Be open to new ideas and have a positive outlook.
  • Good communicator with a good standard of written and spoken English. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team, but also able to work on your own initiative.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and pressure.
  • A keen interest in ICT, and passionate about IT, technology, and infrastructure.
  • General understanding of PC / server hardware
  • Access to reliable personal transportation/transport
